Ahhhh Snow!

Snow...Snow...and MORE Snow! It has been snowing for the last 3 days here in Fairbanks. I have never driven in so much snow (it's kinda fun). This much snow would definitely have shut Franklin down. Believe it or not they do not even delay school for this kind of snow. According to Zac (the weatherman) it has snowed 12-15 inches in the past 3 days. Snow doesn't melt here so the total on the ground is about 4 feet. Zac is like a kid again, always running to the window to check and see if it's still snowing. I am just thankful that he gets up and starts my car in the morning and brushes off all the snow :)

Letters from home

Avery loves getting mail! Almost more then he loves tooth brushes or booster seats :) He loves to sit in my lap and read letters from Nana and Ranger. When we received the first letter in the mail, it was a little emotional and I teared up. We miss our families very much but we are so thankful for their love and support. It was nice getting something from home. What a precious memory Avery will have when he gets older, to be able to read letters his Nana and Ranger sent him when his mommy and daddy had just moved to Alaska. Thanks Nana and Ranger :)

Avery's new favorite

Avery gets bored with toys pretty easily. Every week it seems he has a new favorite toy. And his toys are never conventional kids toys. Last week it was a tooth brush, this week it's his booster seat. Even if we have the most colorful noise making toys out there lying around, he will choose some unconventional toy to play with. His new favorite thing to do is climb up in his booster seat backwards, grab the back and shake it until he about topples over. He spent about an hour doing this just the other night, so I snapped a few pictures.

Spoiled plans

We had glorious plans this weekend to go out and explore, but alas they were foiled by napping infants and grouchy parents. Zac and I did not have our nice pants on saturday morning. I am not really sure what started the weekend off wrong, but we just could not get our act together. Saturday we had a whole list of things we wanted to do and only got to the first thing on the list before Avery was telling us he was ready for a nap. So, we took him home, laid him down and he preceded to sleep the whole afternoon, almost four hours. Our packed weekend turned into a lounging weekend after all. Our plans to go to church saturday evening did not work out either. Avery woke up a little after four and church started at six so technically we had plenty of time to get ready and go. But, after cooking a dinner of tilapia, rice, asparagus and broccoli, we found ourselves lounging on the couch watching Soul Surfer. When we looked up at the clock it was already 6:30...foiled again. Luckily we still had sunday to go check out churches. Oh, and Zac and I found our nice pants and had a wonderful saturday evening :)

Ahhh Saturday

Thank you Saturday for making an appearance in our week! We are going to make the most of this Saturday. Although it would be nice to louge around all day, we have a list of things we want to do today. On the agenda is checking out The Alaska Club which is supposedly a really nice gym (Zac's been whining about it since we got here...do I pick on him to much??? (: I always heard you pick on the ones you love!), next we are going to go to Ice Alaska which is where all the ice sculptures are being carved, and then we are going to try out another church that has a service on saturday evening.
As you can see Avery is all ready to go and it's only 7 am here in Alaska!

Shadows and such

Shadows mean there is SUN here in Alaska. Actually when we first visited Fairbanks in Dec there was only 3 1/2 hours of daylight, but now there is around 9 hours, and every day it increases. Avery had fun playing with his shadow and Zac attempted to make shadow puppets, but I think he needs to take a class :) We have a huge sliding glass door in the living room and Avery loves when we pull the curtains back so he can see outside. The sun was so bright from reflecting off the snow that he had a hard time seeing anything.

No need for a plate

So, most parents teach their kids NOT to eat off the floor...right? Well, my husband never learned that rule. In fact I should have seen it coming. When I first met Zac, I took him over to my best friend Becky's house for dinner. It only took a good 5 mins before he was eating out of the garbage can...i kid you not...and that was not the only time. It should have been a warning ;) for parenting skills 101. So needless to say I shouldn't have been surprised to come home and find cheerios all over the floor. I thought...oh, I guess they got knocked over...until Zac comes around the corner and pours out a little pile on the floor for Avery to eat. "Zac! you are supposed to teach your kids NOT to eat off the floor"..."Oh" *shoulder shrug*. Cheerios were tracked all over the house. Avery would reach down and pick one up, then proceed to walk all over them, transferring them to various places in the apartment. Is it to late to go back and teach him NOT to eat off the floor??? :)

Disclaimer....I have the most amazing husband and dad around (even if he has a few quirks)!!!
